Questions Before You Order
1. How long does it take? It usually takes 3-4 weeks for your corset to be created and 2-3 days for shipping with UPS. Sometimes (rarely) there is a shortage in materials such as fabrics and it might take longer. You will be notified right after the order is placed.
2. Can I supply my own fabric? Yes, only woven fabrics can be used. Stretch knit fabric is not good for corset construction and velvets do not work well. You can send us a swatch sample in the mail for us to determine if it is suitable. There is a $10.00 discount when you supply your own fabric.
3. How much more does a custom corset cost? Custom corsets cost 25% additional. This covers the time spent on a made to measure one of a kind pattern and usually custom cut boning along with other details that are required. If you would like a style not offered on this site and would like a custom style made, custom charges will be applied to the nearest existing style you may have in mind.
4. Can I get a personal fitting? Yes, if you are in the greater Los Angeles, CA area, you can contact us to schedule an appointment.
5. Which style is most suited for 23-hour waist training? All of out corsets are constructed for long term wear but for 23-hour waist reduction we recommend either the PY03 Underbust or PY05 Contour Underbust. Overbust styles will be too restricting for 23-hour wear. For waist-training purposes we recommend these corsets to be custom made to measure.
6. What style do you recommend for a male figure? We have successfully made all styles for men but the styles that most men prefer to wear are the Cinchers and Underbust because they flatter the V-shape physique most men secretly desire. Overbust styles are desired for their restrictive qualities.
7. Will the corset help me lose weight? No, the corset only compresses your stomach but it will return to its natural size once the corset is removed. For weight reduction we recommend a consultation with your doctor for a proper weight lose program.
8. Do corsets stretch? No they do not! They are made with woven materials that are interfaced and interlined for total support. Sometimes corsets are made with elastic gussets over the hip or bust area for flexibility but in general real corsets do not stretch but rather mold to your body shape over time. Puimond corsets need a 4-6 hour breaking period.
9. Do you make matching skirts? Yes we offer these items on a per customer basis. Please inquire.
10. Is whalebone still used? Whalebone has not been used for many years. Nowadays quality spiral and flat steels are used to stiffen corsets.
11. What is a modesty flap? A modesty flap is a boned panel made of the same material and lining that is sewn on one side under the back laces to hide any skin from showing through the laces. Most often this flap prevents “rope burn” from the laces.
12. What kind of corset laces do you use? We have a reliable lace manufacturer that custom makes our unique flat 3/8” smooth “military braid” laces. These laces are metal tipped at the ends and smooth to touch yet has enough grip to secure any serious tightlacer.
13. Can I have extra removable garters added? Yes, all our styles can be made with extra garters. They are $10.00 per pair.
14. What if I need the corset sooner? For rush deliveries within 1-2 weeks, please inquire before ordering as there will be extra fees for this service.
Questions About Wearing a Corset
1. Is wearing a corset uncomfortable? Corsets are meant to be worn very snug but not unbearably tight. Puimond corsets are made with extra attention to detail allowing curvature to only cinch in the waist and allowing a comfortable fit at the ribs and hip area.
2. Why are Puimond corsets much more comfortable to wear than most other corsets I have worn? Simple, most ready-made corsets are cut too rigid on the sides, which compress the ribs and hips too tightly while trying to cinch in the waistline at the same time. Our corsets allow room for a comfortable hug above and below the waist.
3. Will the corset stretch over time? No, all Puimond corsets including PVC and leather materials are fused with woven interfacing and cut on the grain. At the center of the corset (waistline) a twill tape is sewn to reinforce it from any stress.
4. How small can I make my waist? It all depends on your body structure and the degree of tightness you feel most comfortable in. We recommend a 3-5 inch reduction.
5. Can I eat after lacing into the corset? Yes, we recommend that you lace into the corset before you eat and eating small portions frequently is more advisable than eating one large portion all at once.
6. Do I need help to put on the corset? It is always easier to have someone help, but with practice it will be just as easy to lace yourself as you would with your shoes. Each corset comes with a descriptive care tag that will explain in detail how the corset should be properly laced.
7. Why do I sometimes have such hard a time closing the front busk? Most often you may need to loosen the laces at the back a bit more so that the corset encases you without any pulling. It is best to hook the middle studs and work your way up and down.
8. Do I have to unlace the back before I remove the corset? Absolutely! If you do not, the pressure may bend and break the busk closure and if it breaks, it’s game over!
9. Why do I sometimes feel itchy after wearing the corset for long period of time? While wearing corsets for long period of time the undergarment will absorb body oils. This can cause dry flaky itchy skin and sometimes chaffing. To prevent this it is best to take care by applying a good moisturizing lotion to your torso before lacing into the corset.
10. Will the corset prevent me from slouching? Yes, you will sit straight up with perfect posture as you should be!
1. What should I do after I remove the corset? Well-made corsets should last a long time, provided it is properly cared for. Make sure you do not over tighten it and each time after you are finished wearing it give it some time to breathe. Simply lay it flat (lining exposed) on your bed or chair for a while so that the body moisture that has been absorbed can air out.
2. How should I store the corset? After the corset has been aired out and dry, lay it flat in a clean drawer or just hang it horizontally over a long hanger with the laces over the bar of the hanger.
3. How do I clean the corset? It is recommended that you take it to a reputable professional dry cleaner. If you know of or can find a dry cleaning specialist that offers hand-dry cleaning, it will be worth the extra cost. If your corset comes with removable garters it is advisable to remove them before any dry cleaning is done because the solutions used can be harmful to the elastics. A leather specialist should only clean leather corsets.
4. How often should I clean my corset? Most often corsets are worn over clothing or over a liner of cotton material wrapped underneath the torso to absorb moisture but just as often they are worn over skin. It all depends on how much the corset is used. Use your own good judgement when a cleaning is needed. Cleaning too often can harm the corset materials.
